Introduction

The Culinary Arts Program is an initiative by Playmas Montreal Cultural Association and “A Taste of the Caribbean” to offer Scholarships in the culinary arts to unemployed and disenfranchised youth. The project has appropriately been named “TRIUMPH” THROUGH ADVERSITY because this program will be triumphant in meeting the needs of disenfranchised youth. It will provide our youth with a positive training and development culinary program in order for them to learn and achieve success.

TRIUMPH is a 10 month course in partnership with St. Pius X Culinary Institute. TRIUMPH targets the under-privileged and unemployed youth (ages 16 to 24) who are experiencing difficulty adapting into the mainstream work force and are experiencing social problems. The program will allow a maximum of 5 youth per session in the daytime classes and a maximum of 5 youth in the evening classes.

Playmas Montreal Cultural Association sponsors each year “A Taste of the Caribbean”, a Caribbean Food Festival which attracts more than 1,000 people each year to enjoy the tastes, sights and sounds of the Caribbean. Proceeds from this event will be used to support the main objective of TRIUMPH which is to train young people to be service workers and future owners in the restaurant business.

Food is a “Way to the Heart” and Triumph is a Way to reach the Heart of our community.
